Where Are a Truck’s Blind Spots?

Trucks are hazardous to other vehicles on the road. It’s important for every motorist to drive defensively around them. One way to do so is knowing where a truck’s blind spots are located and spending as little time as possible in them.

Trucks Have Large Blind Spots

Trucks have significant blind spots directly in front, directly behind, and on either side of them. Most truck drivers will not be able to see vehicles 20-30 feet behind or in front of them. Additionally, most truck drivers will not be able to see vehicles one lane to the left of them, and two lanes to the right of them.

There are several rules you can follow to drive defensively near large trucks and avoid their blind spots, including the following:

  • Do not tailgate a truck.
  • Do not pass a truck until it is visible in your rearview mirror.
  • Spend as little time on either side of a truck.
  • Assume that if you cannot see the truck driver’s face in the truck’s mirror, the truck driver cannot see you.

What to Do After a Truck Accident

Even if you follow all these principles of defensive driving, truck accidents can still happen, often as a result of a truck driver’s negligence. If you get injured in a truck accident, it’s in your best interest to contact an experienced personal injury attorney who can sort through the details of your case and identify any and all liable parties.

At Wisner Baum, we have a proven track record of success in truck accident claims, and we’re here to help you seek justice during this difficult time.
